How it works

Four simple steps, start to finish

Every set is made from impressions of your own ears. You take them at home with the kit we send you.

  1. Custom earplugs in yellow, green, clear and black

    Step 1: Order

Choose your options and check out. Your home impression kit is included.

  2. Step 2: Receive your kit

It ships 2 to 3 business days after we receive your order. Watch your email for the tracking number.

  3. Step 3: Make your impressions

About 15 to 20 minutes at home, with a video that walks you through every step. You can do it yourself; a second person makes it easier.

  4. Step 4: Send them back

Pack them in the same box and use the prepaid return label. We start building the day they arrive.

Then we hand-build your set in 40 business days from the day your impressions reach our lab and ship it to your door, with a 30-day fit warranty. If the fit is off, we adjust it.

Questions about the kit

What if my impression doesn’t come out right?

We check every impression before we build. If one needs to be redone, we send you another kit at no charge. The kit also has extra material in case you want a second try.

Do I need someone to help me?

No. You can take your impressions yourself by following the video. A second person makes it easier, because they can see into your ear, but you don’t need one.

When will my order arrive?

Your kit ships 2 to 3 business days after we receive your order. Once your impressions reach our lab, we hand-build your set in 40 business days and ship it to your door.

Already have impressions? If we made your last pair, choose “Big Ear already has my impressions” at checkout. From an audiologist? Mail them to Big Ear Inc, 101 Durden Park Row, Blythewood, SC 29016.

Stop restocking tips

One custom fit instead of pack after pack of foam tips.

Foam tips squash flat, lose their seal and get thrown out, so you buy more. Custom adapters are molded to your ears in soft silicone and seat the same way each time you put them in: a better seal, all-day comfort, and a lot less going in the trash.

01

Fits like nothing off a shelf

Shaped from impressions of your own ears, so your headset seals properly without pressure points, hour after hour.

02

No more restocking

No more ordering tips, no more spares in the flight bag or the drawer.

03

Less to throw away

One pair of custom adapters in place of a steady stream of worn-out tips.

Hand-built in the USA

Made for your ears alone.

Not assembled overseas, not drop-shipped, not rushed. One pair at a time, for one set of ears at a time. We are proud of that, and we think you can hear the difference.

The problem with stock ear tips

Your headset’s ear tips were never made for your ears.

The tips that come with your headset are built for an “average” ear, so they work loose, let the engine and wind through, and have you re-seating them mid-flight. Here’s the difference a custom adapter makes.

The Big Ear difference

Your headset. Your ears. Finally matched.

Your headset is a great piece of gear, but its one-size ear tips were never made for your ears. We take a separate impression of your left and right ear and build a custom adapter in our own soft silicone, the softest material we make, with no hard shell, so it seals, stays put, and stays comfortable through the longest flights. You keep the headset you trust; we just make it fit you.

No hard shell means you can wear it longer and more comfortably than any stock tip, or any competitor’s adapter.

The detail

How the Halo works, and where the seal comes from

The Quiet Technologies Halo keeps its speakers in the band behind your head. Sound travels down two thin tubes to the tips in your ears, so there are no ear cups, no clamping and almost no weight on your head. That light, simple design is why so many pilots fly with one.

It also means the tips do all the work. With no ear cups, both the noise reduction and the clarity of your radio depend on how well each tip seals in your ear canal. The stock foam tips have to be rolled down, pushed in deeper than feels natural and held while they expand. Seat one a little shallow and the seal leaks: more engine and wind noise, a thinner radio, and the volume creeping up through the flight. Over time the foam flattens, picks up oil and dirt and stiffens in a cold cockpit, so you keep buying more.

What we make for your Halo

We build a custom adapter for each ear from impressions of your ears. The end of your Halo's sound tube seats into a channel molded through each adapter, and the adapter carries the sound into your ear canal in a tip shaped to your ear alone. It goes in the same way every time. No rolling, no waiting for foam to expand, no guessing how deep is deep enough.

Every adapter is hand-cast in our own platinum-cure silicone with no hard shell. Many custom earpieces are made from a harder material. Ours stay soft, which is what lets you wear them through a long cross-country or a full day of instruction without the pressure points a hard earpiece can leave.
