What are the best industrial earplugs?
For most floors, custom earplugs molded to each worker’s ears, because they seat the same way every time and are comfortable enough to stay in all shift. Filtered plugs suit areas where people need to hear speech and alarms. Solid plugs such as the Guardian Vanquisher (NRR 37 dB) suit the loudest steady-noise stations. Big Ear’s Guardian industrial plugs range from $149.95 to $179.95.
What does OSHA require for hearing protection?
When noise reaches an 8-hour time-weighted average of 85 dBA, OSHA requires a hearing conservation program: noise monitoring, annual audiometric testing, hearing protectors, training and records (29 CFR 1910.95). Custom earplugs cover the protector part with plugs your crew will actually wear.
Why custom earplugs instead of disposable foam?
Foam only protects when it is rolled, inserted and left in correctly, and it often comes out because it is uncomfortable. A custom plug is molded to one worker’s ear, seats the same way every time, and is reusable for years, which also ends the daily foam waste.
Will my crew still hear each other and the alarms?
Yes, with filtered models. The One uses interchangeable filters from 9 to 30 dB, so you can match the reduction to the area and avoid over-protecting people who need to hear speech and alarms. Solid plugs give the most reduction where talking isn’t needed.
How much does a hearing conservation program cost?
Each worker’s pair is the listed price of the product chosen, plus shipping, paid in full up front. Custom industrial plugs start at $139.95. There are no contracts or subscriptions, and the planner on our page for safety teams compares five years of custom against disposables.
Can you fit our whole crew on-site?
Yes. We fit up to 100 workers a day on-site, with a minimum of 20 per visit. For sites more than 100 miles away, we ask the facility to cover lodging. Crews can also use our home impression kit, which is included with every pair.
Do custom earplugs reduce foam waste and clean-up costs?
Yes. A reusable custom pair replaces the disposable plugs a worker would otherwise go through every shift, so there is far less foam to buy, hand out and sweep up.
How much protection do custom industrial earplugs provide?
The Guardian Vanquisher is rated NRR 37, Full Stop Super-Soft NRR 32, and The One NRR 25 with one filter installed, with interchangeable filters from 9 to 30 dB. OSHA’s method subtracts 7 dB from an NRR for A-weighted readings, and NIOSH recommends fit testing to confirm what each worker gets. Lab test reports are available on request.
