Our softest silicone
Our softest earplug. Sealed to your ear.
Super-Soft is made from molds of your ear canals in our softest platinum-cure silicone, Shore A 25. It locks into the second bend of the canal and sits flush, so it’s designed to hold its seal through the night, on a long flight or across a full workday, with nothing sticking out to press into a pillow.
Squeeze it. That’s how soft it is.
Super-Soft is our softest silicone. It folds between two fingers and springs right back.

How it works
Four simple steps, start to finish
Every set is made from impressions of your own ears. You take them at home with the kit we send you. Watch the process →

Step 1: Order
Choose your options and check out. Your home impression kit is included.
Step 2: Receive your kit
It ships 2 to 3 business days after we receive your order. Watch your email for the tracking number.
Step 3: Make your impressions
About 15 to 20 minutes at home, with a video that walks you through every step. You can do it yourself; a second person makes it easier.
Step 4: Send them back
Pack them in the same box and use the prepaid return label. We start building the day they arrive.
Then we hand-build your set in 40 business days from the day your impressions reach our lab and ship it to your door, with a 30-day fit warranty. If the fit is off, we adjust it.
Watch the kit, step by stepQuestions about the kit
What if my impression doesn’t come out right?
We check every impression before we build. If one needs to be redone, we send you another kit at no charge. The kit also has extra material in case you want a second try.
Do I need someone to help me?
No. You can take your impressions yourself by following the video. A second person makes it easier, because they can see into your ear, but you don’t need one.
When will my order arrive?
Your kit ships 2 to 3 business days after we receive your order. Once your impressions reach our lab, we hand-build your set in 40 business days and ship it to your door.
Already have impressions? If we made your last pair, choose “Big Ear already has my impressions” at checkout. From an audiologist? Mail them to Big Ear Inc, 101 Durden Park Row, Blythewood, SC 29016.
Why custom
Tried the $40 earplugs? Here’s why they didn’t work.
They are made for an average ear, not yours.
- They hurtA one-size plug has to press on your ear to seal. After an hour, you feel it.
- They work looseTalk, chew or turn your head and the seal breaks, so you keep pushing them back in.
- They let noise slip inIf a plug does not seal, it does not block. A gap is all it takes.
Ours are molded from your own ears, so they seal by shape, stay in, and last 7 to 10 years. $168.95 over seven years is about $24 a year.
Published studies, plain English
What the research says
We read the studies on custom earplugs. Here’s what they found, with a link to each one.
Same seal, every time
Custom fits the same way each time you put it in.
In a lab study, custom earplugs gave more consistent protection from one fitting to the next than a premolded earplug.
Tufts, Jahn & Byram, Annals of Occupational Hygiene, 2013 (opens the study in a new tab)
Comfort you keep in
Workers rated custom the most comfortable.
In a study of 118 workers who tried nine earplug models, custom molded earplugs were rated the most comfortable. An earplug only protects you while it’s in.
Terroir et al., Ergonomics, 2021 (opens the study in a new tab)
Fit beats the box
The number on the box isn’t the whole story.
Real-world protection from any earplug is often well below its rating. How well it fits in your ear matters most.
The straight answer: studies don’t show that custom earplugs block more noise than a foam plug rolled and seated perfectly. What they show is that custom ones seat the same way every time and are comfortable enough to keep in, which is how you actually get the protection.
Hand-built in the USA
Made for your ears alone.
Not assembled overseas, not drop-shipped, not rushed. One pair at a time, for one set of ears at a time. We are proud of that, and we think you can hear the difference.
The problem with foam
Foam plugs don’t really seal, and you can feel it.
Disposable foam is rolled down and shoved in, so it backs out, leaks, and never seals the same way twice. When you need real quiet, “close enough” isn’t. Here’s the difference a custom seal makes.
The Big Ear difference
A complete seal, molded to you.
Foam can only ever approximate your ear. We take a separate impression of each ear and build a solid plug in our own soft silicone, the softest material we make, for a complete, repeatable seal that blocks the noise and still feels good hours in. It’s the quiet you actually want, without the pressure a hard plug gives you.
Most makers use a harder, cheaper material. We spent 20 years refining a softer one, because soft seals better and never presses the way a hard shell can.

The detail
If you have ever tried to sleep on your side with an earplug in, you know the problem. It presses. It aches. By two in the morning you have pulled it out, and you are listening to everything again.
Full Stop Super-Soft is the fix. Built in the softest silicone we make and molded to each ear, it seals gently, with no hard edges to press in, even with the side of your head on the pillow. Night-shift workers, light sleepers, anyone who lives next to noise: this is complete quiet you can actually keep in until morning.
The softest, most comfortable seal we have ever built.
