  • Sirens, air horns and the pump panel.The siren and air horn run through every response, then it's the pump, the saw or the rotors on a flight. Foam muffles your partner and the radio, so it comes out and stays out. The One is designed to lower the noise while voices and radio traffic can still come through.

How it works

Four steps, start to finish

  1. Order.Pick your earplug and options. Your home impression kit is included.
  2. Receive your kit.It ships in 2 to 3 business days with a prepaid return label.
  3. Make your impressions.About 15 to 20 minutes at home. A helper is optional. Watch the process.
  4. Send them back.Your pair is made by hand in the USA in about 40 business days once your impressions reach our lab, or 20 business days with the $50 rush build. If the fit is off, our 30-Day Fit Warranty means we adjust it.

Before you order

Will I still hear the radio and tones?

The One is a filtered plug, designed to turn noise down rather than shut it out. Every pair has a non-linear canal filter plus a face filter you choose, from 9 to 30 dB. Lighter filters let more sound through for the radio, tones and talking with your crew or patient. Heavier filters are for the loudest work. Full Stop Super-Soft is a solid plug made for off-duty sleep, not for working a shift.

Which plug for the rig, qual and sleep?

For the rig and the range, The One: a lighter filter on the rig, where you need to talk, and 30 dB for qual. The One Select comes with two filter sets, so you can keep one of each. At indoor ranges, NIOSH recommends earplugs and earmuffs together, so wear your muffs over them and follow your range's rules. For sleeping after nights, Full Stop Super-Soft. For music off duty, custom in-ear monitors.

Is this allowed under my agency's policy?

Policies differ by agency and by assignment, so check yours before wearing earplugs on duty. Big Ear doesn't claim approval from any agency or a match with any specific radio or earpiece. If your safety officer wants details, call us at (719) 271-4528.

How do impressions work?

A home impression kit is included with your order. It ships in 2 to 3 business days, and impressions take about 15 to 20 minutes. The build takes about 40 business days from when your impressions reach the lab, or 20 business days with the $50 rush build. If the fit is off, our 30-Day Fit Warranty means we adjust it.
